Cross Gate Gallery Teams Up with HORSETAILS to Unveil the 2010 Collection
(LEXINGTON, Ky.) Š The most recent exhibition of the Horsetails 2010® collection was unveiled at Cross Gate Gallery's opening on May 29th. Cross Gate's exhibit will be showcasing 27 of the 54 violin-themed pieces of equine art from now through July 10th.
Horsetails 2010® is an effort of the Lexington Philharmonic to celebrate the unique relationship between horses and music. The tail hair of horses has provided the string on the bow of orchestral instruments for centuries. With this inspiration, these pieces of artwork were created by celebrated artists to combine visual art, musical instruments and the horse to produce world-class works of art.
Of the collectionÕs artwork at Cross Gate Gallery in the upcoming weeks, many of the works feature accompanying pieces to showcase the unique style of each renowned artist, including Joanne Mehl, Bill Fletcher, Sandra Oppegard, and Andre Pater.
"We are thrilled to support a cause like HORSETAILS® as it brings together horses, music, and art, an effort that has been our main focus for years," stated Catherine Ladd, Assistant Gallery Director at Cross Gate Gallery. Cross Gate, located in downtown Lexington, is one of the premiere 'Sporting Art' galleries in the world, featuring primarily equine art.
After this exhibit, the HORSETAILS® pieces will be featured in other exhibitions leading to their auction at the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games coming to Lexington this September. These exhibits include an exhibition of the piece "Provocative" at the Singletary Center UK Art Museum in the Bluegrass Palette of Andre Potter from June 26th-July 14th and selected works in the Fasig Tipton Sales Pavilion in Saratoga Springs, New York from August 1st - September 6th.

String music filled the space throughout the evening. As guests arrived, they were greeted by an ensemble of Central Kentucky Youth Orchestra musicians made up of Eric Xiong and Abigail Curtis on violin, Alison Ward on viola, and Serena Sahajian on cello. The student musicians were followed by cellists Rebecca Kiekenapp and Clyde Beavers, both orchestra members. Our thanks to all these musicians who helped make the kickoff so special!
