A master of the reining ring, Wimpys Little Step is the only horse to win both the AQHA Congress Open Reining Futurity and the NRHA Open Futurity, both of which he won in 2002. He marked a 233, the highest score ever recorded in reining. He has since displayed his champion blood as a sire, with 32 money-earning offspring and combined earnings of over $750,000 in his first crop alone. His offspring include the reining champion Wimpys Little Chic, RC Fancy Step, and Wimpys Little Buddy. Wimpys Little Step became the youngest Million Dollar Sire in the NRHA in 2008, the same year that his own sire, Nu Chex to Cash, earned the same honor. Our thanks to Michele and Shawn Flarida of Springfield, Ohio for donating tail hair from Wimpys Little Step.
Trained at Murray State University in painting with emphasis on the human figure, Marianna McDonald graduated and immediately began to focus on the landscape. Shifting from oils and watercolors to pastels in 1983, McDonald has focused on the Kentucky landscape, distilling minute details in order to give the viewer the peaceful sense of viewing the essence of the land.
Fifty-two artists from around the country have been chosen and each given small replicas of a violin and bow. Each artist has been assigned an unforgettable, beloved horse and has created a work of art. Artists have worked with paint, glass, metal, and other mediums. Their only charge was to embrace either the image or spirit of their horse. Horses include well-known Thoroughbreds, as well as other breeds represented in the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games™.
Each piece will be on display at the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games™. During the Games, a silent auction will take place, with all proceeds go to the Lexington Philharmonic Orchestra’s Partners in Education, a program benefiting the children in high-risk areas of Kentucky through music education.
