A multimedia artist, Lucinda Alston Chapman has worked in various mediums including ceramics, printmaking, and paper collage. Since earning her bachelor's degree in ceramics and a master's degree in design, Chapman has received awards on national and international levels. Her work has been exhibited on more than 150 occasions in 12 different states around the United States, as well as permanent collections in Ireland, and was juried into The National Museum for Women in the Arts in Washington, D.C. For her violin of Awesome Again, Chapman chose to reflect the pride and importance reflected doubly in his name, stitching beaded initials on wide ribbons, with woven ribbons reflecting the letters behind. The iridescent beads mirror the light from different angles, with a layered gold background enhancing the reflected light.
Fifty-two artists from around the country have been chosen and each given small replicas of a violin and bow. Each artist has been assigned an unforgettable, beloved horse and has created a work of art. Artists have worked with paint, glass, metal, and other mediums. Their only charge was to embrace either the image or spirit of their horse. Horses include well-known Thoroughbreds, as well as other breeds represented in the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games™.
Each piece will be on display at the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games™. During the Games, a silent auction will take place, with all proceeds go to the Lexington Philharmonic Orchestra’s Partners in Education, a program benefiting the children in high-risk areas of Kentucky through music education.
