Horsetails

Simeon Shai

[Picture]

Originally bred in Australia, the sleek bay Egyptian horse *Simeon Shai+ had considerable hype to live up to upon his arrival to the United States, and he did not disappoint. In 1991 he claimed the "triple crown" of the Arabian halter ring, winning Scottsdale, Canadian, and U.S. Champion Stallion titles. That same year he also became the World Champion Stallion at the Salon du Cheval in Paris. *Simeon Shai+ remains the only straight Egyptian stallion and the only Arabian horse to earn both of these titles in the short time span of 10 months. With more than 500 progeny in 10 countries on 4 continents to his credit, *Simeon Shai+ has earned the reputation as a sire of international stature. Currently living at Silver Maple Farm, the 25 year old horse still looks striking and remarkable, aging with grace. *Simeon Shai+'s tail hair has been generously donated by Silver Maple Farm in Santa Ynez, California.

Joanne Mehl

Widely known in equestrian circles, Joanne Mehl's art has been featured prominently in the equine world from the cover of Dressage Today to the poster for the 2007 Breeders' Cup. A 1983 graduate with Honors from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, she has continued the devotion to horses present since her youth through her work, paying tribute to the beauty and fervor of the world she loves as a rider and as an artist. Her painting of *Simeon Shai+ depicts him on his 24th birthday, looking as vibrant and ageless as any mythical horse from the pages of the Arabian Nights.

About the Project

Fifty-two artists from around the country have been chosen and each given small replicas of a violin and bow. Each artist has been assigned an unforgettable, beloved horse and has created a work of art. Artists have worked with paint, glass, metal, and other mediums. Their only charge was to embrace either the image or spirit of their horse. Horses include well-known Thoroughbreds, as well as other breeds represented in the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games™.

Each piece will be on display at the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games™. During the Games, a silent auction will take place, with all proceeds go to the Lexington Philharmonic Orchestra’s Partners in Education, a program benefiting the children in high-risk areas of Kentucky through music education.

Please take the time to enjoy our art gallery (link to gallery), learn more about our special events (link to special events), and shop in our retail area for your very own HORSETAILS® 2010 merchandise. If you have questions about the project or would like more information, please contact us.

The Presentation

Each completed work of art is professionally mounted on linen mat board and framed in an antique black wooden slant-top shadow box. Framed by Lexington’s premiere sporting arts framer, the finished size measures 13.25" x 17".
