Horsetails

Ravel

[Picture]

Discovered by rider Steffen Peters in Aachen, Germany during the World Equestrian Games in 2006, the strong and sensitive Dutch gelding Ravel debuted with his new rider in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. Horse and rider went on to win the Rolex FEI World Cup Final in 2009, and the title of Dressage Champions at the World Equestrian Festival in Aachen later that year. Ravel's tail hair has been generously donated by Steffen Peters.

Cindy Wolf

A native of San Francisco, Cindy Wolf grew up in Mill Valley, California, where she learned to ride horses from a very young age. Though engrossed in the Thoroughbred racing world, she realized the dream of becoming a jockey was not to be achieved. After graduating from William Woods College in Fulton, Missouri with a degree in history, Wolf devoted much of her time to the American Saddlebred, competing in both National and World Championships. Experimenting with sculpture while living in Denver, Colorado, she moved to Woodford County, Kentucky in 1979, where she continued to compete, but focused more on developing her sculptures. Wolf has since become an established bronze worker, known for her meticulous metal finishing techniques, and has created many one-of-a-kind pieces for private commissions and for Horse of the Year and Eclipse Champions. In her piece for the dressage champion Ravel, the stallion is depicted at the extended trot to capture his incredible movement that makes him instantly recognizable.

About the Project

Fifty-two artists from around the country have been chosen and each given small replicas of a violin and bow. Each artist has been assigned an unforgettable, beloved horse and has created a work of art. Artists have worked with paint, glass, metal, and other mediums. Their only charge was to embrace either the image or spirit of their horse. Horses include well-known Thoroughbreds, as well as other breeds represented in the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games™.

Each piece will be on display at the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games™. During the Games, a silent auction will take place, with all proceeds go to the Lexington Philharmonic Orchestra’s Partners in Education, a program benefiting the children in high-risk areas of Kentucky through music education.

Please take the time to enjoy our art gallery (link to gallery), learn more about our special events (link to special events), and shop in our retail area for your very own HORSETAILS® 2010 merchandise. If you have questions about the project or would like more information, please contact us.
