Son of leading sire A.P. Indy, Pulpit enjoyed a successful career on the track, winning the Grade 2 Fountain of Youth and the Grade 1 Blue Grass Stakes, placing in the Grade 1 Florida Derby, and coming in fourth at the Kentucky Derby, a race in which he was injured. At stud, Pulpit had the classic winner and multi-millionaire Essence of Dubai in his first crop, with Grade 1 winners in his second and third crops. He has continued success every year including this year siring graded stakes winners as well as being a sire of sires in Sky Mesa, Tapit, and Stroll. Pulpit's tail hair has been generously donated by Claiborne Farm in Paris, Kentucky.

Frank Close began working with glass in Berkeley, California, where he studied under the influential stained glass artist Ludwig Schaffrath. Since then his art has been exhibited widely in the United States and Europe, including 2e Salon International du Vitrail in Chartres, France, and has been featured in numerous periodicals. For his representation of the Thoroughbred Pulpit, Close created a glass violin-shaped construction through which one can see a pixilated glass image of the stallion.
Fifty-two artists from around the country have been chosen and each given small replicas of a violin and bow. Each artist has been assigned an unforgettable, beloved horse and has created a work of art. Artists have worked with paint, glass, metal, and other mediums. Their only charge was to embrace either the image or spirit of their horse. Horses include well-known Thoroughbreds, as well as other breeds represented in the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games™.
Each piece will be on display at the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games™. During the Games, a silent auction will take place, with all proceeds go to the Lexington Philharmonic Orchestra’s Partners in Education, a program benefiting the children in high-risk areas of Kentucky through music education.
